Ties!!!

A friend stopped by my office yesterday to drop off a bag of men's ties!

They were neatly folded and stacked in shoe boxes, but I had to dump them out and see what what there. Oh what fun I forsee playing with these! Any favorite tie projects out there that you want to share? Let me know - put a link in the comments so I can get really excited about all the possibilities like this quilt from http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-105125-1.htm:

or this quilt from http://birdnestontheground.blogspot.com/2009/01/quilt-from-old-neckties.html (I encourage you to read the blog post for the story and to see the wonderful detailing!)

Or this crazy quilt from http://postcardy.blogspot.com/2010/09/vtt-crazy-quilt-made-from-vintage.html

Thank you for all the possibilities, Mary Beth!

have fun with those ties! I started a little hexagon quilt with them a couple of years ago. I didn't get very far. :/ Hope you do better than I did.

I have an on going TIE project, so far it is 15 yrs of collecting and i cut out the sheets for the base of a crazy patch. no pinning, no cutting, just adding TIEs to my 'pile'. hurry and get started on yours so I can harness your motivation and get moving on mine- lol

Ive seen lots of creative things done with ties over the years ..and your photos show a lot more...I think you should host a tie challenge Erin to see what creative lovelies people can come up with . I'd be in it !

(Im rather partial to the Dresden block myself )

The mother of one of my Scouts asked me to make a quilt using ties of the boy's grandfather. I found a machine quilter to do it for her knowing at my speed it would take too long. I have often wondered what pattern I would have used.

Some time ago I had posted some of the ties that my Mom had sent me and a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt that was made out of ties. My Mom has since sent me a ton of more ties. I would like to make a Sun Bonnet quilt out of them and a Dresden Plate and use some in a crazy quilt. I have so many ties that I could make several quilts with them. Can't wait to see what you do with yours. I still have not gotten to use mine.

The four corner blocks of my quilt are my adaptation of a fan pattern. This is easy to do with ties without having to applique on a background.

I also made a pillow with the "fan" pattern on one side and a crazier pattern on the other side.
