Seeking opinions!

Quick survey - Let's just say, hypothetically, that you had a sibling (let's make it a sister) who was a quilter. (Lucky you!) Let's also say that this sister/quilter had deconstructed a quilt made by one of your ancestors (let's make it your Great Great Grandmother, just for kicks) and had a couple small leftover pieces from the original quilt that didn't make it into the new quilt. Let's say this sister/quilter wanted to make each of her siblings something quilted that incorporated this old fabric, perhaps something about 12" square. If you were one of these siblings, what would you prefer that you get, a pillow or a framed quilt to hang on the wall? Or perhaps something else? Please let me know what you think. Of course, this is all just hypothetical, but my hypothetical curiosity really wants to know...

On to other topics - since I failed so miserably at buying light and bright fabrics on my shopping trip last week, I'm really hoping to win this giveaway from retromummy:

It is open until Sunday, November 21 if you want to give it a try.

And speaking of giveaways, I put Vera's and Shay's winnings in the mail to them yesterday, and mail karma kicked in. Look what was waiting for me when I got home - my winnings from Leona's giveaway!

It took every ounce of willpower to not immediately get to work making something from those fun fabrics for one of my boys.

And finally, people have been commenting on my Pink Ribbon Pin a lot lately.

I wear it every day, kind of a daily tribute to the survivors that I know and the ones I have lost, but also as a reminder to me to pay attention to my own health and to not take any day for granted. I have a link on the top right of my blog page every day, but I wonder how many of you Click Daily to help fund free mammograms at The Breast Cancer Site? I encourage you to do so, if you don't already.

Today is dark and cold and rainy in Virginia, a perfect day for cuddling up under a quilt with a cup of hot cider and a good book or movie. What am I doing? Sitting in my freezing office working, then off to a couple hours of karate and errands. Oh well. I'm sure it will still be cold, dark and rainy when I finally get home this evening. May your Tuesday be warm and cozy and full of light!

If my sister was making me a keepsake of my grandma out of pieces from an old quilts my grandma made I would want a wall hanging so that it wouldn't wear out. (This is NEVER going to happen to me - no quilting grandmas, no sewing sisters)

I love that boys will be boys fabric line. I've been looking at it for Little P's next quilt.

if I was your hypothetical sister, I'd love a mini quilt /wall hanging/pillow. or you could quilt it up and put it in a free standing picture frame like a photo. Thats what Ive done with some of my left over blocks.

Cant wait for my parcel now... I love squishy mail!

Hi Erin, 'Hypothetically' I would prefer a framed wall hanging. Would last a lot longer than a cushion :-)

I would go with the framed "picture" or wallhanging too. If it was a pillow, I would be afraid to use it. (Especially with 4 kids in the house!)

Hey, Erin. While I think a pillow would be wonderful, I think a wall hanging would be better because I wouldn't wear it out (and the dog wouldn't chew it and I wouldn't spill or drool on it.) But, that's just me. Love where you're headed tho. Lane

Why not make one or two of each and let them pick. I have made little angle dolls, bears, pillows, framed wall hangings etc. from older cutter quilts. I am sure your sister and brother and all others will love what you make. cheryl(hypo thinking)willis

I agree with the framed piece. That immediately came to my mind while I was hypothetically thinking. :)

I think I would make something to hang. As to the frame versus a wall haning I'm not sure which. You want it to last???

Hypothetically speaking, I would prefer the framed quilted item --I think it would keep better and would be admired more often. Cold and rainy here too. Good night to cuddle up under a quilt but I have to go to a meeting!

hmmm, I would want a wallhanging I think. I think that would be best and the easiest to be protected. A pillow screams "use me" and I wouldn't want it getting ruined!

Hypothetically, I would go with the wall hanging. I made handprint pillows for grandparents when children were small and the handprints have worn off with wear...maybe this is too far out..but what about incorporating a photo of your great great grandmother if you have one? Have fun. Whatever you do will be great!

I would go for the framed piece, I am sure what ever you chose it will be a welcomed gift.

Hello, well hypothatically I would love to have a framed piece. But since I have no sisters and since neither my daughter or my nieces are doing anything like quilting, embroidering, sewing, etc. I think I'll never get such a wunderful framed historical quilt. Maybe I should be the one to make them, anyway it is a very good idea! (and that is not hypothetical)

Hmmm, well hypothetically (big grin over here in the desert around my mouthful of pizza!), I'd go with a wall hanging myself. I think that would help those fragile blocks stay together longer. Have fun!!

Hypothetically I would rather have a wall hanging. I'm afraid a pillowcase would become damaged in use where a wall hanging could be appreciated by everyone and passed down to further generations.

I clicked the pink link and will do so every time I visit your wonderful blog!!
