Me robaron!!!

When they took my tiny sewing scissors in Costa Rica, I wasn't so upset, even though I've traveled with those very same scissors for years; after all, I had my backup thread cutter medallion. But now they have gone too far! I'm in Quito, flying Delta, and they removed EVERY SINGLE basting pin in the tablerunner I'm (still) quilting, took two packs of quilting betweens, and all my flower head pins that I've been using to hold my Dresden Plate blocks together!

I have been traveling with sewing supplies for years, and the only thing anyone ever objected to before was scissors. This is outrageous! I have 10 and a half hours of travel before I get home, and I can't even sew! Argh!

(Actually, I had a pretty good day today, which I will share when I get home. Right now, though, I am just seeing red. I never thought of those pins and needles as weapons, but oh, what I was tempted to do to the security guy with them!!!)

Oh, I am so glad you did nothing to that security guy (even though he deserved it). I don't think they let you blog from jail...

Have a safe trip home :)

I have been traveling with that medalion ever since my favorite scissors got confiscated at Narita airport. Some places give you an envelope and allow you to mail it home. Not in Japan!
Needles and pins???? You gotta be kidding?

Welcome to the rest of the world travelling!

Not a pin or anything is permitted from or to UK. 23 hours to Australia. I was fine. Honest. Not a stitch in 24 hours. Yes I coped. No worries. No cold sweat here.

So how exactly were you going to take over a plane with some pins? That's going way too far.

Grrrrr! That is just too absurd. I guess books about quilting is about the best you can hope for anymore!

Well I think I'm going to have to check before I get on an airplane just what I can take. Mike says Judi you cannot take your cross stitch needle and baby scissors on the plane and I'm in shock. What can one do with them.

Thanks for the heads up to anyone traveling internationally! Now I will only thread baste when crossing borders. Medallion thread cutter - check - guess I'll have to come up with a way to make a 'needle' brooch (maybe magnetize a needle to stick to the back of the pin back?) (secret pocket behind the pin back?). (This is just getting my creative mind spinning).

Oh Erin thats awful!

A least they didnt test you for bomb residue which indicates you look suss. Mr P always gets tested for bomb residue even when we walk in to pick up people from the airport...

Hope you survived. I;m getting worried since we havent heard from you . Email me if you decided to go crazy and need to be bailed out of jail.

So sorry you had problems at security. The last time I flew I did not have any problems. I had a very tiny pair of scissors and they didn't take them. I have a pair packed now and am hoping not to have the problem tomorrow! Now I am worried they will. Will let you know how it works out.

What an absolute bummer!! But glad you were able to control yourself and not use one of those contraband needles!
